What's Matcha?

Matcha is the stone-ground Japanese style green tea. It has the unique aspects of farming and processing: the green tea plants for matcha are shade-grown for about three weeks before harvest and the stems and veins are completely removed in processing. During the shaded growth, Camellia sinensis produces more theanine and caffeine. The powdered form of matcha is consumed differently from tea leaves or tea bags, and is dissolved in a liquid, typically water or milk. Matcha also has come to be used to flavor and dye foods such as mochi and soba noodels, ice cream, matcha lattes and a variety of Japanese snacks.

About us

Matcha-Cha is the product of five founders - Kenta, Teru, Shin, Takashi and Jin - who each come from a unique background. Kenta and Teru have a variety of successful experiences launching restaurants in US and Japan. Shin is the CEO of a famous golf course in LA with a restaurant that seats over 150 people. Takashi specializes in IT business. Jin is a serial entrepreneur who sold three different industries of businesses. We all grew up in Japan and wish to bring Japanese green tea culture to LA. We are just getting started with Matcha-Cha and so excited for our journey ahead. We look forward to seeing you soon!
